BEWARE. Doll shown is the 2021 Dia de Muertos
diva70smusic· Review provided by walmart.com · March 29, 2023
BEWARE of the doll year. Even though Walmart has the doll listed as the 2022 Dia de Muertos, the doll is year 2021. See attached photo for the 2022 doll. If you read further in the product details, it does say 2021. Please somebody at Walmart correct this error!! Doll collectors and other Barbie enthusiasts pay too much money for these dolls. It would be a shame to ship the wrong doll.
Other than that, I give the doll five stars. Others have complained about the quality compared to 2019 and 2020 dolls. I only have 2022 to compare to. I still love the doll. As a collector, I love to have all ethnicities and theme dolls. I don't plan to take her out of the box which is a work of art within itself.
2021 was a flop.

I'm not a Barbie girl but I love everything Day Of Dead. In 2019 my coworkers printed and posted the articles that Mattel was coming out with a Dia De Muertos Barbie. Cool but I'm not a Barbie girl and didn't think much more about it. Then for the holidays my coworkers collectively presented me with a gift. I was not prepared for my reaction to the best fanciest gift I've ever gotten. It was magical. The details were beyond fabulous. This one doll had me hooked and I knew I would forever be a collector of this particular Barbie. Within 24 hours I was signed up to several websites including Mattel even though it would be another year for the next Dia De Muertos Barbie was released. 2020 came and when I got the delivery of the new doll I was so excited. I've seen pictures online but again seeing the details in person had me in awe. These dolls got their very own shelf with lighting. Another years wait but I was already excited about the 2021 doll. I started getting emails about how the 2021 doll was coming with the addition of a male doll too. Then some emails of leaked sketches and blurred pictures. I have to be honest the pictures I saw didn't have the razzle dazzle of the 2019 and 2020 but I bet this wasn't the final product. Still excited and couldn't wait to add my new Barbie to my collection. The box is delivered. I unwrapped it slowly but when I pulled off the top of the box I remember thinking the picture of the doll on the box is prettier than the doll inside. I stared at her for a day feeling like a little let down. Because of the cost I didn't want my husband to know I was disappointed. I actually thought that maybe it was fake because the quality and details were just not the same. This past 6 months everytime I get any Barbie news I spend a little time to see if I could find reviews from others who felt the same. I finally did and am so glad. I didn't order the male version but did get to see it. More detail was given to him. The fabric and embroidery are reminiscent of 2019 and 2020 dolls. Maybe Mattel should have just stuck to the one doll and doing it well rather than skimping. I took all three of my dolls out and beyond the plastic window of the box. The fabric of the 2021 dress is cheap flat cotton, the stitching is cheap, the designs are iron on. Even the plastic jewelry is flat and boring. The hair is not smooth and not even across teh bottom. I've read in other reviews about the blah thick headband and the cheap silver waste ribbon. I agree with others. I've purchased my granddaughter less expensive Barbies at big box stores that were better than this 2020 collectors doll. I so love the 2019 and 2020 Dia De Muertos Barbie dolls that they made me an official collector. I'm still on the list for the 2022 doll. Im still going to pass on the male version but will give this another try. If the poor quality is the new route going further then 2022 will be my last. Someone answering the phones at Mattel could have looked at all three dolls and could have clearly seen the lower quality. I expect more.
EXCEEDED MY EXPECTATIONS!

Not only is the doll absolutely beautiful, but the box itself is a work of art!! The price is affordable because it's a couple yrs old, but who cares? She's stunning...unfortunately for my granddaughters, this beauty is just to look at.
l will take the box to get a full color copy done so l can embellish it, then frame. The box is THAT beautiful. A
Pretty doll

As usual, I give Barbies a 4 star review. Not because they aren't pretty, but because you are paying a premium price for a plastic doll that is inconsistent in quality. If you have the $ and don't mind the various quirks, then this doll is lovely and should bring enjoyment to the collector. I do not recommend it for a child unless that child takes very good care of their toys.
